St. Joseph Parish in Vancouver recently celebrated two Simbang Gabi masses, part of the tradition of a nine-day Christmas novena celebrated by Filipino Catholics. One mass was sponsored by the Circulo Pampangueno Association and Edith Montemayor, while the other was sponsored by Maria Villanueva in honor of her 75th birthday. Both gatherings showcased the community’s strong faith and joyful celebration of the Christmas season.
On December 18th, the Circulo Pampangueno Association, together with Edith Montemayor, owner of Pampanga Cuisine on Fraser Street and Joyce Street, sponsored the midnight Simbang Gabi mass. This cherished event was attended by Circulo Pampangueno officers Noel and Luz Bucad, Rey and Vangie David, Arcie Lim, Carmen Carreon, Christian Cunanan, and Edith Montemayor along with her family. The sponsorship continued the association’s annual tradition of supporting this holy and festive celebration of Christmas, commemorating the birth of Jesus Christ.
On December 21st, Maria Villanueva, originally from Kalibo, Aklan, celebrated her 75th birthday by sponsoring another Simbang Gabi mass. A Vancouver resident for 35 years, Maria marked this special occasion surrounded by her family, friends, and fellow parishioners.
Each Simbang Gabi mass followed by a warm reception featuring delicious food and fellowship, creating a welcoming gathering and connection among attendees. This simbang gabi highlighted the rich cultural and spiritual traditions of the Filipino Catholic community, bringing parishioners at St. Joseph Parish together in joyful celebration and thanksgiving for the Christmas season.
