Son of Kris Aquino’s ex defends dad after split with actress

Miguel Padlan, the son of Kris Aquino’s ex-boyfriend Dr. Michael Padlan, defended his father after his split with the Queen of All Media.

In a lengthy Facebook post on Tuesday, Miguel said he is speaking up because he loves his father and he “cannot remain silent while false stories are being spread about him.”
Confirming his dad’s split with Kris, whom he called “mama,” Miguel said the two separated “because the spark between them was gone.”

“However, that does not mean my father never loved her. He truly did. Their relationship was real, and he cared deeply for her. But love alone is not always enough to make a relationship last forever. Sometimes, two people are simply not meant to be together in the long run, no matter how much they once loved each other,” he said.

What pains him the most, according to Miguel, is that during their relationship, he and his siblings often felt neglected because their father was constantly traveling to the United States to be with Kris.

“He gave so much of his time and energy to her, even at the cost of his own well-being. There were times when he had little to no money left and was losing patients at his clinic, yet he still chose to be with her,” he said.

Miguel also clarified that his father never asked for anything nor begged for money and gifts from Kris, and whatever the actress gave to him is out of her own kindness and generosity.

“Despite all the hardships he faced, both emotionally and financially, my father never abandoned us. He remained present in our lives, even during the most difficult times. That is the kind of man he is selfless, loving, and strong,” he said.

Miguel said that his respect for Kris “remains immense” because his father truly loved her.

“It may hurt to admit that my siblings and I sometimes felt neglected by our father, but we understand—Mama Kris needed him, and we respected that,” he said.

He also asked Kris to not “spread stories that are untrue” and those who know his father can attest to his character.

“We love you, Mama Kris, and we love our father as well. Family is family. That is why I am here—to support my father and stand by my family,” he said.

This statement came after Kris revealed on Sunday that she and Michael are no longer together.

In her post, Kris detailed the “painful truth” behind their breakup. She later edited the caption because of Michael’s children, who made her “smile, laugh, and value life’s simple pleasures.”

“Time has passed: Dr. M did not love me,” Kris wrote. “He chose to leave when my autoimmune conditions were multiplying. In my defense the MD received the correct professional fees—even when we were a couple.”

“My prayer now is that we leave others out of our failure. I did cling and asked for too much because you restored my hope, when in your arms I did feel safe. I don’t regret loving you completely. Sanay akong mabigo.”

In February, Kris made her first public appearance in the Philippines since getting diagnosed with autoimmune conditions.

In the same month, Kris revealed that she now has seven autoimmune diseases. She returned to the Philippines in September 2024. (J. Veronique Yap/MGP, GMA Integrated News)
