Filipino boxing champion Manny Pacquiao asked the rebel groups Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF), New People’s Army (NPA), and government troops to stop fighting even for just a couple of hours on May 2, as he goes into the ring for the much-awaited fight of the century against Floyd Mayweather Jr. “Ceasefire muna. Magkaisa tayo kahit sandal lang. Suportahan po ninyo ako at ipagdasal(Ceasefire first. Let us be united even for just a while. Support me and pray for me),” said the People’s Champ.
The Pacquiao-Mayweather fight happens on May 2 in Las Vegas and is expected to bring in the most famous people from politics, showbusiness, sports, and the whole world to the megafight.
Boxing legend Evander Holyfield predicts that the Mayweather-Pacquiao fight will be one of the greatest fights of history.
Even the Philippines’ big three networks will forget competition for a while and bring to the screens the fight for the Filipino people.
“Magsasama po tayo, panoorin ninyo ako sa lahat ng TV networks natin, GMA, ABS-CBN, TV5. Ibibigay ko po lahat ng aking lakas, para
sa aking pamilya, sa Diyos at para sa inyo na nagmamahal sa akin (We’ll be together, watch me in all our TV networks, GMA, ABS-CBN, TV5. I will give all my strength, for my family, for God, and for you who love me),” said the Pambansang Kamao.
Pacquiao reiterated his call for ceasefire, saying that peace in the country will definitely inspire him more.
“Magkaisa po tayo para sa bayan (Let us unite for our country),” said Pacquiao.
