Today the City of Vancouver welcomed federal funding for two key local infrastructure projects that play an important role in our community. Both the Stanley Park Seawall and the Vancouver Central Library will benefit from upgrades and rehabilitation, with $500,000 in federal support announced for each project.
The Honourable Kerry-Lynne D. Findlay, Member of Parliament for Delta- Richmond East, and Minister of National Revenue, on behalf of the Honourable Michelle Rempel, Minister of State for Western Economic Diversification announced earlier today funding support for improved community infrastructure in Vancouver as part of the Government of Canada’s celebrations of the 150th anniversary of Confederation.
“These investments from the federal government will help strengthen our community, further improve Vancouver’s quality of life, and support two priority projects in the City of Vancouver’s 2015- 2018 Capital Plan,” said Mayor Gregor Robertson. “We look forward to further discussions during the federal election on critical issues facing Vancouver, and other cities across the country.”
Background on 2 projects being funded:
• Central Library Community Learning Expansion-$500,000.
Expanding to levels 8 and 9 including a café, reading room, offices, community roof garden. Total project cost – $15 million.
• Stanley Park Seawall Renewal – $500,000. Repairs to aging seawall between Second Beach and Prospect Point including footings, mortar, cavities, habitat areas, as well as cycling path improvements. Total project cost – $5 million
