  • The Electric Vehicle Association of the Philippines (EVAP) through its president Rommel Juan recently signed a memorandum of agreement with the Green Technology Center (GTC) of the Technical Education & Skills Development Authority (TESDA) through its Director Felicidad B. Zurbano, CESO IV.

Juan says that this agreement is meant for EVAP to support TESDA GTC’s E-Vehicle Service Training Program which aims to provide technology and information, training tools, training equipment, instructional materials, trainers and resource persons, competency standards development and learning materials development.

“These will be for TESDA’s vocational training students wishing to acquire the skills in the relatively-new electric vehicle technology. EVAP commits to be an effective partner with TESDA GTC by providing whatever resources are available from our members to their training programs. We can even co-develop the appropriate curriculum for the training courses”.

The GTC is TESDA’s Green Skills Hub from where all green initiatives that will positively impact the lives of the Filipinos emanate. It aims to help realize the country’s dream of a sustainable development in the EV field.

GTC’s mission is to recommend policies and cause the sustainable development, implementation and promotion of existing models, programs and standards towards quality green Technical Vocational Education and Training or TVET. This will be through partnership with various entities and practitioners in the field.

On the other hand, EVAP is the recognized organization of EV industry manufacturers, assemblers, importers, distributors, suppliers and advocates. Juan said that its members are committed to support and share their combined technical know-how for electric vehicles, especially in the fields of electric vehicle manufacturing, parts manufacturing and supply, equipment supply and testing and EV maintenance and repairs.

“We have agreed to provide support to TESDA GTC because they share our vision of developing this sunrise industry, and we really need technical training and education for technicians to further develop the EV industry. All these are aimed at further propagating the Green Technology and the use of EVs nationwide”, Juan concludes.

EVAP will display all its members’ latest products and technologies at the forthcoming Philippine Electric Vehicle Summit 2016 at the Meralco Multipurpose Hall at Pasig City on April 14 to 15. (Gregory E. Bautista, Malaya)
