South Carolina is a favourite stomping ground for acclaimed author Nicholas Sparks. Our romantic writer continues on his merry cash generating ways with his latest offering, The Choice, from EOne Entertainment. Chances are hoards of teenage girls will flock to Cineplex Odeon cites around B.C. To catch up on the love pangs.
Opposites attract and then some. Gabby Holland seems like quite the catch when the fledgling student bunks out at a humble seaside community. Besides good looks actress Palmer hits the books hard as this stay at home student trying to make it to medical school.
Fans of soap operas know that hospitals are a popular setting for falling into and out of love and all emotions in Between. Being such a looker the blonde goddess attracts lots of attention. Local lad from The wrong side of the fracks Travis Walker wants to hook up with the new resident as does dashing doc Ryan McCarthy. Both Benjamin Walker and Tom Welling (Cheaper by the Dozen) go through the motions while busily tugging at Gabby’s heartstrings.
Meant as a romance to please teenage girls The Choice works. Other audiences will see. Itching new here and the twist in the third contrived and something that most fans can see a mile away. Besides the beautiful water-bound scenery this film is just a standard love story set with an all too familiar medical component. Efforts at an aw shucks rural population come across as too stereotypical.
Short on soul and substance The Choice fails to ignite the passion pangs and leaves nary a last impression.
