ABAP executive director Ed Picson said yesterday that Cain’s credentials have been submitted to the PSC and the agency’s executive director Guillermo Iroy confirmed this.
Iroy said that for Cain to be recruited to help the ABAP’s quest to send at least three bets to the 2016 Games in Brazil, the PSC board has to approve his recommendation.
Cain is a member of GB Boxing, the amateur boxing body of the United Kingdom, and the ABAP wants him share his expertise so not just one or two fighters will end up carrying the Philippine flag in Rio.
PSC chairman Richie Garcia had earlier expressed his wish that the ABAP – or any other national sports association eyeing to get a foreign coach for the Rio Olympics – recruit somebody of high caliber.
Even the Philippine Olympic Committee believes the targeted foreign coach should be more accomplished than the local coaches. (N. Giongco, mb)
