The Rotary Club of Vancouver Mountainview (RCVM), a volunteer service organization of mostly Filipino professionals based in the lower mainland, was awarded the coveted award as The Outstanding Rotary Club of the Year in the recently concluded Rotary District 5040 Conference last June 4-5, 2021. The announcement was made by Rotary District Governor Darcy Long at the virtually held awards portion of the convention which was attended by Rotarians belonging to District 5040. The district covers Canada’s west coast in British Columbia with 50 Rotary Clubs comprising of over 1700 Rotarians. RCVM, which is headed by President Dr. Gloria Samosa, was recognized for having numerous community activities in Metro Vancouver, including several international projects, mostly in the Philippines. The club was also credited with the highest number of new members inducted. The award places the club front and center in the Rotary world , as it is a relatively new club, having been chartered on June 13, 2017. Adding more honour to RCVM, two club members were also recognized with People of Action Awards in the same convention: Community Chair Bert Parungao, who spearheaded most of the club’s service projects, and Past President Mary Anne Velayo, who will be serving as Assistant District Governor starting July 1, 2021 On the same date, the club will be celebrating it’s 5th year anniversary with Matt Caparas as incoming President. As part of its 5th year celebration, the club opens its doors to interested professional and service-oriented individuals who have the same passion in serving the community while upholding its international motto of – Service Above Self(Rovic Gloria Canono).
