Wisdom from the Word: Creation

4For the word of the Lord is right,
And all His work is done in truth.
5He loves righteousness and justice;
The earth is full of the goodness of the Lord.
6By the word of the Lord the heavens were made,
And all the host of them by the breath of His mouth.
7He gathers the waters of the sea together as a heap;
He lays up the deep in storehouses.
8Let all the earth fear the Lord;
Let all the inhabitants of the world stand in awe of Him.
9For He spoke, and it was done;
He commanded, and it stood fast.

-Psalm 33:4-9, NKJV

You, Lord, in the beginning laid the foundation of the earth,
And the heavens are the work of Your hands. Hebrews 1: 10 NKJV
3 By faith we understand that the universe was formed at God’s command, so that what is seen was not made out of what was visible.

-Hebrews 11:3, NIV

In the secular schools today, the teachers were told to teach Evolution as the way man and the earth came into being. SEVENTH-DAY ADVENTISTS teach and believe that God made all things just as the Bible says. Thus, we believe, “God is the Creator of all things, and has revealed in the Scripture the authentic account of His creative activity. In six days, the Lord made “the heaven and the earth” and all living things upon the earth and rested on the seventh day of that first week. Thus He established the Sabbasth as a perpetual memorial of His completed creative work. The first man and woman were made in the image of God as the crowning work of Creation, given dominion over all the world, and charged with responsibility to care for it. When the world was finished it was “very good” declaring the glory of God. (Fundamental Beliefs, 6)

Before I go further, I would like to thank all of you who have commiserated and condoled us in our grief for losing Nanay Lorenza Mendoza Fortaleza, my mother-in-law, this month of January 2025. Because of illness, I was unable to attend the celebration of life and funeral, although, I was there at the day of her passing. I’ve seen the videos of all the subsequent activities. I would like to make a statement regarding my dear Nanay. Ever since, I got acquainted with them in their tailoring shop and home in Harrison Plaza, in Malate, Manila and saw their beautiful daughter whom they called Lita, I never heard Nanay say anything bad about me in my hearing. Up to the time when they came here to Canada, she was always gracious and happy talking with me. She could be impish at times but in good humour. She would say, “who are you?” but I think she was just teasing. I am thankful to be connected with the Fortaleza Family Clan for having accepted this poor Ilocano as a part of their family. With that I say, Thank you Fortalezas. May your tribe increase more.

Now, back to our topic, CREATION. Many don’t believe that God was able to finish His creative work in six mere days. They’d rather believe the evolutionary theory that the world came into being millions and millions of years ago, and things are still evolving. The man who was created in the image of God, looks a lot better than the ape-like creature that was supposed to be my ancestor. The man that God made speaks very fluently, while the Cro-Magnon man communicates in grunts. No wonder, I’d rather believe that God created me and made me an intelligent being than believing that in the infinity past beyond recall, I started out like tadpole out from the miasma of a dirt-infested pool of mud, making my way to what I am now. Yes, the evolutionary scientists want you and me not to believe in a powerful God, “who spoke and it was done. He commanded and it stood fast.”

Dr. Walter Veith, was once a rabid evolutionist. He was a professor in one of South Africa’s famous Universities that was the hotbed of anything but evolution. When he changed sides, he made a video of why he now believes in God and has completely forsaken evolution. The title was, From Evolutionist to Creationist.

The God who made man in His own image, is still very much interested in the salvation of man. That is why He sent His own Son to ransom man from the condemnation of death for disobeying God’s simple instruction, Do not eat of the fruit of the Tree of Knowledge of Good and Evil. When the Man and woman disobeyed the command, death came into the world. But as said by Jesus in John 3: 16, “For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him, should not perish but have everlasting life.”
