With just days to go before the Philippines holds elections starting from president to municipal councillor, Aquino continues to widen his margin against Villar, according to a recent survey by the Social Weather Station (SWS) survey.
In the latest survey, the son of the late former Philippine president Cory Aquino registered a double- digit advantage of 12 percent, which means garnering an additional three points from his nine-point lead from the last survey.
Aquino attributed his lead to the negative style campaign of Villar ranging from the release of what many claimed as bogus psychiatric report about the former.
If indeed true, this kind of tactic seems to have backfired on Villar. Villar, hounded by controversies starting from allegations of a rotten highway deal to cooking up the stock offering of one his companies, should come up with a good last minute plan if he is to save his presidential candidacy.
Aquino admitted that his survey lead over Villar is definitely based on his solid supporters, who are convinced he can bring change to the country.
If the trend of surveys continues, Villar could kiss his chance goodbye to his goal of becoming the next president.
However, many candidates aren’t too enamored with opinion polls. For them, the real survey is the election itself.
