Inspiring a passion in music to do great deeds, 19-year-old music teacher Sarah Wong singlehandedly organized a music concert this past December showcasing performances by her and her students, including a 70-year-old violinist. The teacher-led Melody of Love Concert raised $10,000 for Richmond Hospital Foundation’s Medical Imaging Centre Campaign.

Funds will ensure state-of-the-art medical imaging technologies for Richmond Hospital’s future medical imaging centre, the new Milan & Maureen Ilich Medical Imaging Centre. This is the second time Sarah has organized a fundraising event for Richmond Hospital Foundation. Last year, she raised another $10,000 towards mental health.

“Not only do I hope to help build my students’ confidence on stage, I also hope they can unlock their ability to contribute to their community and demonstrate how their passion for music can do great deeds, within themselves and for the world,” explains Sarah. “By donating to Richmond Hospital Foundation, we are impacting the community directly and spreading awareness and a positive message for our young performers and audience members.”

Richmond Hospital Foundation is raising $20 million to fund the latest technologies for the new medical imaging centre in the Yurkovich Family Pavilion, Richmond Hospital’s new acute care tower. These technologies are key for diagnosing, tracking and monitoring medical conditions and include CT scanners, MRI machines, mammography machines, SPECT machines, X-Ray machines, and interventional radiology machines.

“Sarah and her students’ passion for doing good will continue to bring great joy to the Richmond community. It was touching to see how everyone pulled together on show day despite the heavy snowfall,” shares Spencer Gall, Campaign Director, Richmond Hospital Foundation. “Thanks to their generous and kind-hearted efforts, our health care teams will have the latest imaging technologies to make a positive difference in the lives of patients and their families.”
