Dear Premier Eby,
Re: Support for the Filipino Cultural Centre in Vancouver Campaign
On behalf of the City of Vancouver, I am writing to express our enthusiastic support for creating a new
Filipino Cultural Centre in the City of Vancouver. A new Filipino Cultural Centre aligns with our city’s
commitment to diversity, social harmony, and the promotion of cultural exchange.
On June 14, 2023, Vancouver City Council’s Standing Committee on Finance and City Services passed the
Council Motion “Support for the Filipino Cultural Centre in Vancouver Campaign,”.
The motion, which has been unanimously supported by all members of Council, speaks to the
commitments that your government has made in support of a Filipino Cultural Centre.
With its deep-rooted heritage and dynamic cultural traditions, the Filipino community has been an
integral part of Vancouver’s diverse population for many years. We recognize the Filipino community’s
immense contributions that continue to shape our city’s economic, social, and cultural landscape.
A dedicated Filipino Cultural Centre in Vancouver would serve as a hub for the community, fostering
unity, celebration, and the preservation of Filipino heritage. It would provide a space where residents
and visitors can gather, learn, and appreciate the richness of Filipino culture through various artistic,
educational, and social activities.
We believe the Provincial Government has a vital role to play in ensuring this project’s success. We
strongly urge you to allocate the necessary funding from the provincial budget to support the
establishment of the new Filipino Cultural Centre in Vancouver.
Investing in a Filipino Cultural Centre is not only an investment in cultural diversity and inclusivity but
also a recognition of the important role that the Filipino community has played and will continue to play
in our province.
Please feel free to contact my office if you have any additional questions.
Sincerely,
Ken Sim
Mayor, City of Vancouver
