UAPBC British Columbia Chapter 13th Anniversary and Induction Ceremony

  • The United Architects of the Philippines (UAP) British Columbia Chapter marked a significant milestone as it celebrated its 13th Anniversary with a grand induction ceremony for the officers ( FY 2024-25 ) and its new members. The event was held on October 5 at the Whistler Ballroom A of the River Rock Casino Resort in Richmond, BC.

    The ceremony was attended by distinguished guests headed by Vice Consul Marco Frederick Harder as well as the current National President of the United Architects of the Philippines ( UAP ), Arch. Donato B. Magcale and the National EVP, Arch. Annie C. Pugeda. It was the first time in the chapter’s history that both the national president and the national EVP attended. Other guests include representatives of various organizations such as Diosdado Mendoza, President of Filipino-Canadian Construction Society, Amado Mercado, Jr. of the Board of Directors, Mabuhay House Society and Christian Cunanan of the United Filipino Canadian Association of BC. Also in attendance were event sponsors, Kate Carandang of Century 21, Mike Cuenta of MAC Mortgages, Arch. Rosa Salcido of Vivid Green Architecture, Ms. Bjie Tan of ReMax and Amado Mercado Jr. and Diosdado Mendoza of Filipino Canadian Construction Society.

    The evening commenced with the welcome address followed by acknowledgement of guests, members and sponsors and introductions of the special guests as they gave their own respective speeches. This year’s induction theme “Moving Forward, One UAP BC” embodies the commitment to progress and innovation. It also involves adopting a forward-thinking mindset enhancing the organizational process and elevating the role of the Filipino architects within the Canadian landscape. This theme is coupled by the UAP Corporate theme ”FutureProgressive-One STRONG UAP” to strive continuity, improvement and growth as emphasized by the message from the UAP National President.

    The highlight of the event was the formal induction of new set of officers and directors for FY 2024-25. The new leadership team headed by incoming Chapter President Arch. Fredelyn Bernabe- Ramos who pledged to uphold the values of the UAP and to foster new initiatives that will benefit both members and the community at-large. Also inducted were the new members who have joined UAP BC Chapter. These Filipino professionals bring diverse backgrounds and expertise further enriching the chapter’s network and enhancing its collective knowledge thereby promoting the objectives of the chapter.

    The event also featured a series of presentations on recent projects and achievements of UAP BC chapter by outgoing chapter president Arch. Reynold Orogo underscoring the chapter’s impact on both local and international architectural practices. Attendees also enjoyed a lunch reception and networking opportunities fostering connections and collaborations among members. There were entertainment song number and impromptu dancing with DJ music A unique experience to the attendees when they were treated to an art exhibit of paintings by one of its noted members, Arch. Charlie Frenal.

    As the UAPBC chapter looks to the future, the newly-inducted officers and members are poised to continue building on the chapter’s legacy, contributing to the architectural landscape of British Columbia.
