  • Adrian Dix, Minister of Health, has released the following statement on Public Health Week from April 3-7:

“This year, and for the first time, B.C. is proclaiming April 3 to 7 Public Health Week. In observance of this week, I recognize and acknowledge the dedication and contribution of all public-health professionals in B.C. who have worked tirelessly to support people and communities in achieving their best health and well-being through what have been some of the most challenging years in our province’s history.

“I also recognize Dr. Bonnie Henry, B.C.’s provincial health officer, her team and the BC Centre for Disease Control for their continued leadership and guidance.

“The recent years have brought multiple public-health crises, including the COVID-19 pandemic, toxic drugs and climate emergencies.

“From the beginning, we have taken preventative, proactive action to better protect people in B.C., and though the emerging health needs of people in our province have rapidly shifted in response to the multiple emergencies, our public-health system is continuing to adapt to meet the needs of people in B.C.

“Through actions like health promotion, health protection, prevention of disease and injury, population health assessment and surveillance, and public-health emergency management, our public-health professionals have been there for people, working selflessly on the front lines of many public-health emergencies.

“On behalf of the provincial government, I thank each and every public-health professional in British Columbia for their contribution to helping keep people in our province safe. Thank you.” (news.gov.bc.ca)
