  • Entering show business as MYX video jock over 15 years ago, Luis Manzano has since made a career both in acting and especially in hosting.

He has learned more than a thing or two about hosting, that it is “not just about talking.”

“Real hosting is about listening, about feeding off sa kung anoangsagotngkinakausapmo,” Luis said. “Akalako (kasi) dati (ang hosting) salitalangngsalita, bastamasabimo spiels mo…”

And even while he is one of the best hosts of his generation, he is yet to fathom its depth.

He said, “I’m still learning and I still have a long way to go…”

If there is one person he looks up to when it comes to hosting, it is none other than his dad, EduManzano.

“I will always look up to him. I will always concede napagdatingsapagigingisang host, I will forever bow down to my dad,” he said.

Whatever the future brings, Luis believes his dad will always be ahead of him, skill-wise.

“Kahitano pa angmangyari, kahitmanalo pa akong award (for hosting)… never kongmai-imagine na feeling ko mas magalingakokay daddy mag-host.”

That said, Luis maintained his dad, as well as his mother, Vilma Santos, never meddle in his career.

“Merongtiwalasa’kinang mommy at daddy ko. Sa lahatng projects naginawako, especially hosting, never silangnagsalita o ano man, kahit tips,” he said. “Well, I know namanna if I go out of line about something, pagsasabihannilaako. Pero I’m fortunate and happy naiba ’yungtiwalanilasa’kin.”

    New game show
Luis will soon be seen hosting the latest local reiteration of the hit American game show franchise, “Family Feud.”

Note it is the third “Filipinized” version of the show with the previous one hosted by Edu.

Luis shared he is a big fan of the show. He likes it that it offers a lot for him to play with as host.

“For ‘Family Feud,’ every answer is different, so parasa’kin there’s always a new punchline waiting and masmadalingmangulit. Kumbaga every answer, right or wrong, is a new punchline for me,” he said.

Given the chance, Luis would like to have his own family on the show.

“Gusto kongmakasamasi mommy, si Ryan, ’yungmgapinsanko versus my dad, my brother, and my sister. Siguropwedesiyanggawing birthday episode.Bastamagsama ’yungdalawang families ko.”

The show will have a total of three rounds per episode. First is the “Face Off” round where a representative from each of the two families will be asked to identify the most popular answers to survey questions answered by 100 people. It will be followed by the “Completing The Board” round with the rest of the family joining in. The family with the most number of points after both rounds advances to the “Fast Money” round. An adjudicator will be present during the games to decide on the contestant’s answers.

For the first season, the show is open to celebrities and their families.

“Family Feud” airs Saturdays and Sundays by April 9 on ABS-CBN. (With report from Jojo P. Panaligan)
