Triple Threat!
Summer is in the horizon. Say goodbye to the North-American pandemic and get set to return to cinemas in style. Sure to put a smile on your face is the uproarious The Hitman’s Wife’s Bodyguard. Bound to be a big hit also when it appears on video on demand here’s one film worth venturing to your local theatre to see on the big screen. More good news is that this film is now showing across British Columbia at Cineplex Cinemas and Landmark Theatres. Hooray!
Made as a sort of continuation of the first surprise hit this installment takes off rather effectively where the original left off. Home-grown boy who made good Ryan Reynolds (Van Wilder) is in top form as a once upon a time bodyguard hoping to get his license back. That license to kill is put to the test when Michael Bryce reunites with ultimate hitman Darius Kincaid. Again Samuel L. Jackson (Pulp Fiction) brings his A-game to the proceedings and that’s a good thing. You see this time the lads (and a lass) are up to their necks in trouble with the fate of Europe left hanging in the balance no less.
Wall to wall action and stunts aplenty sends this dynamic duo on the trail of a master criminal – or is that the other way around. Either way the bullets fly fast and the action never lets up as this story hopscotches for. England to all over Italy. Drama Italian landscapes enhance the very smart story and the effective casting.
Directed with panache by Patrick Hughes from a savvy story by Brandon and Phillip Murphy audiences will get caught up with all the zany situations. Full of very salty language that would make the most hardened longshoreman/woman blush and over the top performance from almost all of the players make The Hitman’s Wife’s Bodyguard a real hoot. Certified fresh with a capital F this one hour and thirty-nine-minute movie rocks. Together Reynolds and Jackson are great and let’s not forget scintillating Salma Hayek as the third member of this comedy kill squad. And having Latin hunk Antonio Banderas (The Mask of Zorro) on hand further intensifies the flavor of this rousing action flick.
Complete with crazy stunts filmed in Croatia and Bulgaria here’s one movie that truly starts the summer season off with a bang. Bang bang(Robert Waldman).
