One FilCoop celebrated Christmas 2014 together at a party at Olympia restaurant, Surrey. The members were grateful for a productive 2014 and welcomed 2015 with hope. We would like to share with you our prayer of thanks and hope.
Dear Heavenly God, we gather here today to celebrate Christmas. We come as a community who believes in the Cooperative spirit. We thank you for the past year. We lost some members of the family but we thank you for the lives they lived with us. We grew weary at times, unable to summon the energy to do the tasks but we thank you that we still keep on doing. There were times when we did not understand each other or we held differing views but we thank you that our shared beliefs in helping one another is bigger than our differences and we have continued to work together and nurture one another.
We thank you for the skills we bring to our cooperative, relationship skills as well as technical skills. We thank you for our caring President, our dynamic General Manager, our inspiring and knowledgeable advisers, our energetic credit committee members, our accountant who keep us on track, the board members and officers who are generous with their time; and we thank you most of all for the members who make our cooperative grow. The cooperative is a venue for us all to continue exercising these skills we brought from the Philippines in an environment that sometimes only asks of us our physical strength and energy.
We as a community are mostly new to Canada. Thank you for the opportunities our new country offers us. Help us meet the challenges we face. Help us hold strong our families and community even as we seek financial stability and integration into Canadian society. Help us see the beautiful values we bring – a capacity to work hard and smart, respect and love for our elderly, helping family, a sense of joy and fun and a grounded faith in You. In the New Year, we look forward to helping each other get and keep more pay/profit per hour we work so that we can have shorter work hours and be with our family and friends more as well as pursue our interests. May other new comers to Canada- the children and spouses who are reuniting with wives, husbands and parents after long years of separation be able to bridge the gap and adjust to the new life quickly and well.
We thank you for the food we are sharing. We ask you to bless us with your spirit of joy and fun as we celebrate and hope in the salvation your birth on earth promised. Amen.
