Filipinas impress on first day of the Canadian Women’s Open

  • The CPKC Women’s Open began early Thursday morning with 156 golfers vying for for the title. 9 of the world’s top 10 players in the Rolex Women’s World Golf Rankings were included in the field at Vancouver’s Shaughnessy Golf & Country Club. After the first round Yuka Saso, who formerly represented the Philippines but now represents Japan, was on top of the leaderboard. She carded a 66 which put her at -6 on the day.
    Bianca Pagdanganan, a native of Quezon City also performed well on the day finishing with a score of -1. That put the Filipina in a tie for 13th place on the leaderboard after a promising first day.
    Large crowds followed Canadian golfers throughout the day with 13 time LPGA tournament winner, Brooke Henderson, as the afternoon headliner. The group consisting of J.Y. Ko, Jennifer Kupcho, and Minjee Lee also had a substantial amount of fans following along taking in every stroke.
    After a promising opening day, fans of the Philippines’ golf scene have a lot to look forward to this weekend!
