  • Singer-actress Aiza Seguerra is part of Maalala Mo Kaya’scommemorative album, Life Songs with Charo Santos, in celebration of the show’s 25th anniversary.

According to Aiza, she got her first international award – Asian Television Awards for Best Actress because of an episode she did forMMK entitled, ‘Songbook’ in 2002. She said that this role was very memorable as this was the first time she kissed a boy, actor Patrick Garcia.

Many years after, Aiza said that she feels grateful to be part of the album and commended that to act in MMK, being an actor’s dream, changes both the lives of the letter senders and its actors.

Indeed, from being a child star to becoming one of today’s sought-after musicians, Aiza has come a long way. However, like any celebrity, she is not exempted from bashers especially Aiza is openly transgender.

Standing up against cyberbullying, Aiza has expressed her thoughts regarding the matter on her Instagram account a few days ago.

This post came after another where she called the attention of a specific netizen who allegedly disrespected her wife, actress Liza Dino.

Talking to some members of the press after the MMK event, Aiza said, “Normal naman ‘yung bashing sa trabaho namin. Bata pa ako, naexperience ko na ‘yun kahit wala pang social media. I have been bashed left and right because of who I am, because of my preference, my gender identity.

“Siguro ang akin lang is, when it comes to my wife, it’s a totally different thing. Most of us na may mga asawawould understand. Ako ang tirahin nila, wala akong pakialam. When it comes to my wife, ‘yung ang ‘di ko kinakaya because somehow, I feel responsible because she chose to be with me… If someone you love is being bullied, hahayaan mo lang? If someone you care about so much is binabastos ng gano’n, hahayaan mo lang?

“I mean lalong dadami ‘yung mga ganyang klase ng tao dahil nagtatago sila sa Facebook, eh. So ako, kung kailangan ko silang pangalanan, papangalanan ko. Kung kailangan kong ilabas ‘yung mga itsura nila, gagawin ko. Ang akin, dapat matututo tayo ng accountability,” she said, adding that freedom entails responsibility.

When asked if these negative comments make them want to lie low on their relationship, Aiza was quick to say no, “Lalo namin ipapakita sa inyo kung gaano namin kamahal ang isa’t isa.”

“Para sa’min kasi, mayroon man sampu na mangutsya, may mainspire lang kami na dalawa na mag-come out… Then enough na ‘yun sa’kin.”

When asked if they are ready for people’s possible reactions now that they will soon fly to the United States to have a baby of their own, Aiza said, “Well, yes, we take it as it comes naman and ang akin lang, bubusugin lang namin ng pagmamahal, of course, our daughter now, Amara and ‘yung magiging anak pa namin. There’s always a way naman of explaining to the kids how to handle these things.”(G.A. lastrilla, push.com)
