Kumukuti-kutitap: Paskong Pinoy Shines in New Westminster

  • Vancouver, BC – September 16, 2023 – Christmas comes early in Metro Vancouver as the Filipino-
    Canadian community will be in for a treat to the first Kumukuti-kutitap: Paskong Pinoy 2023. The main
    event will highlight the Parol-Making Workshop to be hosted by the New Westminster Philippine
    Festival Society.

    NWPFS President Salve Dayao said, “We are set to bring our Filipino Christmas tradition to the
    community and experience the spirit of the season for all of us to enjoy.” This exciting event was
    proposed since April this year and was generously supported by the City of New Westminster. City
    Councillor Ruby Campbell was instrumental in introducing several key people in the city to make this
    event possible.

    Dubbed as the Lights and Lantern Festival, this will feature various activities during the day. Aside from
    the workshop, the event will also feature a chorale competition, food and goods bazaar, numerous
    entertainment and parol-making contest. The day-long event is hosted by the New Westminster
    Philippine Festival Society (NWPFS) and co-organized by Inarte Society. With activities that capture the
    essence of Filipino Christmas traditions, there’s something for everyone to revel in.

    Festival Co-Chair, Mike Cabal said “This event is a testament to the rich cultural tapestry of the Filipino
    community. We are grateful for the support of the City of New Westminster in making this festive
    gathering possible.”

    The event that features Parol Making Contest and Workshop, of which the supplies will be generously
    provided by the Arts Council of New Westminster; allowing participants to create their own traditional
    Filipino lanterns, show-off their creativity and immerse themselves in Filipino culture.

    Salve Dayo, President of NWPFS, expresses her excitement, saying, “We invite everyone to join us in
    celebrating the warmth and joy of a Filipino Christmas. Kumukuti-kutitap is a festival that brings our
    community together, and we can’t wait to share this tradition in our community.”

    The event will be held this October 28, 2023, at the Sapperton Pensioners Hall in New Westminster
    from 9:00 AM to 6:00 PM.
