Erin O’Toole Speaks to Ethnic Media

  • Conservative Leader Erin O’Toole visited BC and spoke one-on-one to ethnic media on the plans of the party in the last week of the campaign. O’Toole invited all ethnic media, with one Fil-Canadian print media outfit, Philippine Asian News Today, the only Fil-Canadian newspaper in print, representing the Fil-Canadian community. Senior editor and senior anchor of PNC-Balitang Vancouver Rosette Correa together with publishers Rey and Cely Fortaleza, spoke with the party leader on the issues that concern the Filipino community.

O’Toole promises foreign credentialing to be on the top of his priorities that concern immigrants and ethnic minorities. He says that the call for recognition of professionals coming from different parts of the world has long been ignored by the Liberal government, and that the Tories have a plan in place to ensure that professionals get a chance to practice their professions under their government. He also said that funding for ethnic media is another issue his government will prioritize, ensuring that funding for bigger media is reduced to make room for support for smaller media outfits that are central to the ethnic and immigrant populations.

When asked about how his government will face the Herculean task of balancing the budget, he says that it is all in their plan to make the next ten years under the Tories one that would put money back in the pockets of families and workers. He said that tight anti-corruption structures will be in place that will prevent government officials from abusing their power to financially gain from their positions.

The Conservative Party is gaining ground in many parts of Canada, and is poised to take a number of Liberal seats, according to the latest poll.
