  • Celebrity couple and newlyweds Jennylyn Mercado and Dennis Trillo announced Tuesday their endorsement of the candidacies of Vice President Leni Robredo for president, and Sen. Kiko Pangilinan for vice president, saying their choice is for the future of their children.

In revealing their election bets, Mercado shared photos of her and Trillo with their newborn daughter, whom they welcomed last April 25.

Mercado went on to explain that as parents, she and Trillo see their duty as voters as crucial to the future of their children. Aside from their baby girl, both have a son from previous relationships.

Admitting that the events leading up to the May 9 elections have been “stressful” for her, Mercado said she nonetheless feels compelled to make a stand especially for her family.

Kinabukasan niya ang nakasalalay dito e,” she wrote.

Mercado pointed out that the next president will be in position for six years — a period that will shape the lives of many Filipinos, including her and her children.

She went on to explain the criteria she and Trillo have considered in choosing the leaders they will vote for.

‘Lam nyo yan mga mommies at even daddies. Pero, reality is, we can only do so much as parents.

Given these factor, Mercado said that her “ultimate survivor” — a reference to her talent search win — is Robredo for president. She also used the hashtag, #LeniKikoUltimateTandem, indicating their support for Robredo’s running mate.

At siyempre, ultimate survivor siya sa labang ito para sa pagkapangulo dahil naniniwala ako that she is the best choice for the job,” she explained.

Quoting Robredo’s words, Mercado said, “In the end, the last man standing is really going to be a woman.”

She concluded her statement by urging her fans, whom she calls “bessies,” to also vote for the Robredo-Pangilinan ticket.

Let’s go out, vote, and make the Leni-Kiko tandem our ultimate choice sa balota.”(abs-cbn)
