The Filipino community in B.C. has lost a dear and respected leader and advocate. Lita Nuguid passed away on July 26 leaving behind a bereaved family and a mourning community. Nuguid has been known for her kind heart and generosity.
She was active in many community undertakings, particularly her leading role in organizing the yearly celebration of Philippine Independence day in Richmond, called Pagdiriwang. The event is organized by Nuguid and her associates with the Filipino Friends in Richmond. Nuguid is remembered by friends for her selfless dedication to various notable causes.
Recently, she was a pillar of strength in the formation of a new umbrella organization representing various groups in the community that was launched as the United Filipino Canadian Associations in B.C.
