“Meron bang dumadalaw sa iyo ngayon?” Kris then gave an explosive reply.
“Ted, baka naman mahimatay ka kung sagutin ko ‘yan na ang madalas ko lang kausap ikaw,” the loquacious talk show and game show host revealed.“Ted, ‘di ba textmates naman tayo talaga. ‘Di ba may dinner tayo in two weeks?” Kris rattled off, leaving the broadcaster utterly surprised.
“Ted, na-speechless ka na. Bumangon ka. Ted, in-on-the-spot ka nila. Ibubuking kita sa lahat,” Kris continued to tease Ted.
“Puwede ba kitang anyayahan na magtabi kayo ni ‘Noy. Malay mo maging brother-in-law mo siya in the future,” said Kris in jest.
Obviously caught unaware, Ted could only mutter, “Kabayan, puwede dito ka na?”
In the media huddle for “Dalaw,” Kris explained that the interview was meant to be a joke.
“Kanina kasi nagulat ako na siya ‘yung nag-take over kasi I was told it would be Korina. So, plinaytime ko si Ted na siya ‘yung nando’n. Naku, Ted ha, gusto mo talaga akong makatsika. ‘Yun lang po ‘yon,” Kris explained.
The TV host claimed, “He’s been my friend.”
They became close friends when they both suffered the loss of a loved one.
“Nag-reach out ako sa kanya noong time na we were transferring mom from La Salle to Manila Cathedral… because my mom has said before that his daughter was my same age when my dad died.
“At sinabi ng mom, [noong] buhay pa ang mom, ‘Kris puntahan mo sila especially because you know best what his daughter is going through’.And I never got to do that because lumubha na ‘yung kondisyon ng mom.
“And then I remember that there was a live interview and I told Ted on the air [about] that bilin ng mom. And then we exchanged numbers then.”
Kris recounted having dinner with Ted’s family last year.
“In-invite niya ako with his sisters, his children. I brought my kids. We’ve maintained a friendship since that time. I think you become friends with people who have experienced loss.”
She even shared how close she had become with the broadcaster.
“‘Pag meron siyang gusotng tanungin na diretsong tanong tungkol sa pamilya namin, he has a direct line and I answer. I say off the record … He’s a dear friend.”
Since romance was the topic, Kris was asked when she would fall in love again. Without batting an eye-leash, Kris exclaimed, “Next year!”
“With such clarity and confidence ano, at sinabing next year,” she blurted, and then she went on to explain why.
“Kasi ganito ‘yon. Meron akong sariling version ng… I’m turning forty. So I’m doing my own version of ‘Eat, Pray, Love,’ kaya lang mauuna si
love. Regalo ko sa sarili ko together with one of my closest friends, si Liz Uy… We’re going… the day after my birthday… to Bali kasi it’s been my dream.
“And then when the kids are in school in September kasi nakakalendaryo na ‘yung shows na gaga-win ko… third week of January ang simula ng ‘The Price Is Right’ and first week of March naman ‘yung simula ng airing ng ‘Pilipinas Got Talent.’ September pupunta ako sa… I’ll do my version of trip to Italy pero pupunta ako sa France. Gusto ko pumunta sa Lourdes. Baka by October of 2011, baka may magmahal na sa akin.
“Siguro ‘pag natapos ko ‘yung journey na ‘yon, sana, at that point, annulled na ako.”
Does she entertain suitors nowadays?
“Kasi nakiusap ang mga kapatid ko. Sinabi nila na kung gusto mong mapabilis ‘yung proseso, mag-behave ko. So, sinusunod ko po sila. Nagbe-behave ako. I’m not ready. Kasi ano, eh, may bantay po ako.
“Natatawa talaga ako sa nababasa kong tsismis. Nakita daw ako kung kani-kanino… kasama ko daw ‘tong person na ‘to. There’s always a minimum of four PSG with me and everything naka-log. If ‘Noy wanted to check where I was… although I’m 39 years old, I’m still their bunso … I’m still their baby. So meron pa rin silang feeling na baby pa rin nila ako talaga.
