Pilita Corrales to join Vancouver celebration of Philippine Independence Day celebration

Asia’s Queen of Songs is coming to Vancouver in time for the celebration of this year’s Philippine Independence Day.

Pilita Corrales will be at the gala that will cap the celebration in June.

Members of the Filipino community will first gather for the 118th Philippine Independence Day anniversary on June 4 at a new venue.

The United Filipino-Canadian Association in British Columbia (UFCABC), a conglomerate of more than 25 Filipino groups and associations in the province, will present “Pista ng Bayan,” on June 4, 9 a.m. onwards at Memorial South Park (5955 Ross Street and 41st Avenue).

In previous years, Philippine Independence Day celebrations were held at Slocan Park.

The June 4 gathering will be followed a week later by a gala on June 11 at the Westin Bayshore Hotel in downtown Vancouver.

The Philippine Consulate General in Vancouver, headed by Consul Neil Ferrer, is all out in supporting this year’s Philippine Independence Day celebration in Vancouver.

The celebration coincides with the 60th anniversary of the Philippine Consulate in Vancouver.

Participation at the June 4 event at the Memorial South Park is anticipated to be in record numbers.

So far, 40 community organizations are listed to set up booths at the park.

In addition, at least 20 businesses will also have booths at the daylong event.

Ten major sponsors of the celebration will likewise man booths to inform the community about their services.

The daylong event on June 4 will feature games, music, and a variety of performances from visiting and local artists.
