New Westminster, BC – November 12, 2024 – The INARTE Society, in partnership with SPYRON AV Manila, is proud to present a special screening of UNSURRENDERED Documentary Film Series, an inspiring film that brings to life the gallantry and unyielding spirit of Filipino war veterans and guerilla fighters during World War II and beyond. The film by Lucky Guillermo, will screen at the Queensborough Community Centre in New Westminster on Sunday, November 17, 2024.

The UNSURRENDERED documentary film series tells the story of the valiant efforts of Filipino guerrilla fighters and soldiers who, despite facing incredible odds, continued to resist and defend the Philippines during the war. Highlighting the courage of these heroes, the film sheds light on the rich history and resilience of the Filipinos.  The fourth of the series, the Gallantry in Mindanao, tells the narrative around the experiences of Gen. Cirilito Sobejana, former AFP Chief of Staff and a Medal of Valor awardee recognized in 1996 for his extraordinary acts of bravery. General Sobejana’s personal journey embodies the fighting spirit and selfless dedication that have come to symbolize the heroism of Filipino veterans.

As the centerpiece of a continuing effort to honor Filipino wartime heroes, UNSURRENDERED aims to educate and inspire audiences with a story of bravery, resistance, and patriotism. With Director Lucky Guillermo at the helm, SPYRON AV Manila and the INARTE Society hope to amplify the voices of these unsung heroes and preserve the legacy of Filipino war veterans for future generations. Event Co-Chair Lourence Almonte Singh, whose great-grandfather and grandfather served the Philippine Army said, “It is timely for us new generation in Canada to learn more about Philippine history, and get involved for the betterment of our new home.”

This special screening event is open to the public, and attendees will have the opportunity to engage with the director and learn more about the film’s significance and historical context.

Join us in honoring the heroic legacy of Filipino veterans and guerrillas. Don’t miss this chance to witness a story of resilience, courage, and the power of the unsurrendered spirit.
